Fontcastel is a fictitious village about ten minutes from Céret, the capital of cherries in France. Everyone knows everyone’s business and Postman Duc keeps an eye open for newsworthy titbits but if he doesn’t come up with anything interesting on his rounds, he’ll invent it.
From Manon’s balcony she has a spectacular view of the Pyrenees as they drop towards the Mediterranean Sea. Looking inland she can see the sacred mountain of the Catalan people, Mt. Canigou. This also means she gets the full blast of the Tramontane wind because if you can see Mt. Canigou, you can’t escape the northerly wind.
